COMPUTER LITERACY AND KEYBOARDING

Required of seventh grade students, this course begins with students mastering the essentials of typing through the use of the computer. Students will learn to type material by touch and to develop, through drills, speed as well as accuracy. By the second quarter, students will begin covering word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications, as well as an introduction to the Internet and Power Point presentations. The course also includes the history of computer development, computer ethics, computer use and its place in the present day. A full-year required course for students in grade seven.

 

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS AND USAGE

In this course, students will sharpen existing technology skills and learn about many aspects of owning and using a computer. Topics include the following: advanced use of Microsoft Office applications, basic understanding of networks, effective use of web searches and web sites, installing and removing hardware and software, understanding and minimizing safety threats, routine maintenance and troubleshooting, editing images and audio files, and an introduction to webpage design. Students will develop the skills needed to independently find solutions to computer-related problems. Credit: 1.0; A full-year course that satisfies the Computer Science graduation requirement.

Students may also satisfy the Computer Science graduation requirement through enrollment in Journalism (English Department).
