Saint Joseph Academy receives $1M gift; largest in school’s history.

In April 2022, Saint Joseph Academy received a historic and transformative $1M gift from alumnus, Fernando De Leon ’97, to establish the endowed “De Leon Scholars Program” and the “De Leon Excellence in Education Award”.

This transformative gift—the largest single gift in SJA’s 157-year history—will have an indelible impact on students and teachers for the foreseeable future.

The purpose and goal of the De Leon Scholars Program is to recognize and reward students in the 9th – 12th grade who contribute to and make a difference at Saint Joseph Academy, in their home, community at large, and who are likely to continue to do so in the future. In addition to a tuition-assistance award from Saint Joseph Academy, De Leon Scholars will enjoy numerous other benefits that will extend beyond their years at SJA—from backpack to briefcase—including mentoring and internships opportunities as they navigate to and through college.

Similarly, the De Leon Excellence in Education Award aims to recognize and acknowledge those SJA educators that are making significant and noteworthy contributions to the school community. They are the difference makers, the role models, and significantly contribute to the academic success of Saint Joseph Academy students.

Congratulations to Carla Flores ’24, Regina Tovar ’24, and Leticia Salazar ’26 who have been selected to join the 2nd cohort of the De Leon Scholars Program.
